Working primarily in nuanced shades of grey, you’ll learn to build depth, create texture by matching value shifts, and then elevate the piece with carefully placed pops of color for striking impact. Explore the essential roles of high-quality pigments, paper, and brushes—and how these tools can elevate or hinder your art. Through hands-on demonstrations and guided practice, you’ll discover how water behaves on the paper, how pigments interact, and why mastering this movement is key to vibrant, expressive (and detailed!) painting. You'll also learn to build and troubleshoot your own color palette, explore an introduction to color wheels and learn why traditional wheels often “break” in watercolor—and how to creatively fix them.

Busy Greens & Watercolor Magic

FROGGY is a light-hearted, joy-filled watercolor workshop is all about learning how to navigate a complex values study without getting lost. We’ll divide an intricate drawing into small rooms with clear value patterns so you can build your painting on a strong foundation. Then...we play. We’ll explore the surprisingly endless world of greens—mixing, muting, warming, cooling, and keeping them from going swampy. You’ll learn how to create luminous, layered greens by mixing on the palette and discover the magic of letting color mingle live on the paper. That beautiful moment when pigments touch, bloom, and do their watery dance? We’re leaning into that.

This full-day, immersive workshop is an invitation to step into the quiet power of black—where depth, mystery, and subtle beauty reside. We will linger in velvety darkness and sandy roughness, discovering how black holds multitudes: hidden colors beneath the surface, tonal shifts that alter everything around them, and a richness that transforms what the eye believes it sees. Together, we’ll play—intentionally and curiously—with black. You’ll learn my approach to creating a soft, matte, velvety black, explore distinctive black techniques from other artists, and experiment with a raw, gritty black that reveals its magic through water alone. Designed for artists with a solid watercolor foundation, this workshop is for those ready to look more closely—examining when, how, and why the absence of color can speak most clearly, and how black can become a powerful storyteller on the page.

Expect hands-on practice with every version of black, take-home swatches for side-by-side comparison and reference, and a WILD little black-only project.
